PROGRESSION: My Coaching Offer, Lessons from Church Service, and What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast
Two updates before we jump into our regularly scheduled programming.
1) I’m moving this newsletter to Substack. Just for this month, I sent through both platforms so you should have received two emails.
2) I recently enrolled in a leadership coaching program and am on the path to become a certified coach. This is something I’m doing on the side and I need more practice. To this end, I’m offering my coaching services at no charge through the end of September. If you’re interested in doing a coaching session please reply to this email and write, “Count me in!”
Books, articles, etc.
The Manual: A Philosopher's Guide to Life by Epictetus (Book)
I’ll be frank, I feel a little weird sharing books on philosophy and stoicism. It’s like I’m trying to be some profound, phony intellectual. But the few books on stoicism that I've read have turned out to be far more practical than theoretical.
The Manual is only 50 minutes as an audiobook and serves as a nice introduction to stoic philosophy. The book was a reminder that we’ll be a lot happier and more productive by focusing on the things we control and ignoring the things we can’t.
What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast by Farnam Street (Article)
This article was more about willpower and habits than telling you that the only way to be successful is to wake up at 3am, exercise for two hours, and become vegan. Really enjoyed it.
How You Do Anything Is How You Do Everything by Ryan Holiday (Article)
My biggest takeaway from this was that you should do great work regardless of your job or situation. Even if you’re not loving what you’re doing and want to make a change, focus today on being exceptional as that will translate to success when you do find what you love.
Observations
Five Lessons I’ve Learned from Church Service
Over the last 3+ years, I've had the opportunity to serve closely with the leader of our church congregation. Here are five lessons I've learned.
Gratitudes
I’ve found power in regularly expressing gratitude so I’ll continue the habit. I’m grateful for sunshine. There are few things I enjoy more than going on a run or bike ride outside. Grateful for how therapeutic it can be to spend time in the sun.
One more reminder - I’m offering free coaching through the end of September. If you’re interested in doing a coaching session email me back and write, “Count me in!”
Thanks for reading. If you've read anything worth sharing I'd love to hear about it. And do let me know if there's anything I can do to help you.
